GENEALOGY
LINKS
I
have spent many hours doing genealogy research
online. But you have to be careful. The Internet is
a free for all. One of the things I love about it.
Anybody can say anything. Especially when it comes
to making claims about one's background. Take it
with grain of salt, and look for corroborating
evidence. Here are some places to start.

Mary
Young's Gravestone
|
The stone of Mary Youngs. She's in the Old
Burial Ground in Southold, N.Y. Her stone
is the oldest winged skull engraved on
slate on Long Island. I'm guessing this
Mary is Rev. John's oldest son's first
wife, Mary Gardiner, who died in 1689. Not
quite my line, but a very distant
relative.

Reverend
John Youngs
|
A page on my ancestor, Reverend John
Young. Rev. John was one of the founders
and the spiritual leader of Southold, Long
Island. Southold, named after the town in
England they emigrated from, was one of
the first English settlements on Long
Island.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints run one of the best genealogical
sources, as they believe you won't get in
to heaven if you're not documented. Or
something like that. Anyway, this is a
good, easy to use, and free site.

Ancestry.com
|
Another general search site. This site is
where I found lots on my Welsh
ancestors.
|
|
Family
Tree Maker
|
Another general search site. This site has
lots of helpful searches already set up,
and links to other sites.
|
|
Roots
Web
|
Another general search site. I'm including
several because you can cross reference
and corroborate if you use several. I like
this one because it's easy to use and
free.
